Needle in Cotton2009 Multimedia interactive video installation. After five long years and two surgeries I have finally completed my project Needle in Cotton. This exhibit featured at the Lux Center for the Arts explores the act of running 26.2 miles. This interactive multimedia installation is a glimpse inside my head as I run a marathon, alone, from the front door of my home, south 13.1 miles and back. This four-hour run took place Sunday October 5, 2008 and all the work included in the installation has been completed since then. Viewers are invited to interact with elements of the installation that control two large projections documenting my experience of running a marathon. Video for the projections came from actual footage of the run as well as recycled 16mm film footage from the 1950's and 1960's. A custom computer program generates the projections that react to viewer interaction. |
